September 24, 2025 – Marking a significant step in its journey to personal autonomous vehicles, General Motors Middle East (GM) is the first automotive manufacturer to deploy Super Cruise, its hands-free advanced driver assistance technology, on the region’s road through its Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac models.
Super Cruise is a foundational part of GM’s commitment to bring advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) to the region on its path to deliver autonomy as a fundamental feature of personal vehicles, in line with Saudi Vision 2030 and GM’s vision of Zero Crashes. Super Cruise, introduced by GM in 2017, is the industry’s first true hands-free driver assistance technology. In its role as the competent authority for survey and geospatial technologies in the Kingdom, GEOSA has issued the necessary permit for conducting a proof-of-concept HD mapping project which will be a key enabler for the establishment of the envisaged regulatory framework. General Motors Middle East is the first company in the Kingdom to receive approval for such an initiative. After the successful completion of the POC, a Permit was issued for inter-city HD mapping.
The introduction of Super Cruise to Saudi Arabian customer and across the region promises to revolutionize the driving experience in equipped vehicles. When engaged, the vehicle uses precision LiDAR map data, real-time cameras, radars and GPS to keep the vehicle traveling along the lane path for a hands-free driving experience. Thereby, Super Cruise enhances driver comfort and convenience by handling tasks such as lane-keeping, speed management, and steering through curves. For GCC consumers, Super Cruise will offer a smarter and more relaxed driving experience, particularly beneficial for long highway journeys common in the region.
Commenting on the milestone Jack Uppal, President and Managing Director for GM Africa and Middle East said: "GM is committed to developing advanced driver assistance and personal autonomous vehicle technology to minimize and ideally eliminate human driving error, save lives, and improve mobility for everyone. Software is at the heart of our vehicles today and Super Cruise is just one example of what’s possible. Our customer-focused strategy demands we bring meaningful technological solutions and be the first manufacturer to deploy proven and safe Level 2 ADAS in the region."
Through technological innovation, private-public strategic partnerships and collaboration, GM is contributing to the foundation of the country’s new regulatory frameworks that pave the way to personal autonomous driving.
